Some tips for a healthy lifestyle;
- STOP smoking
- STOP or reduce alcohol intake to a few units weekly
- STOP any recreational drugs
- If you are taking any regular prescription medication, please consult with your Doctor as your medication may need to be changed or discontinued before embarking on pregnancy.
- Ensure your diet is healthy, cut out processed and high fat foods, eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables,fish, chicken and at least one portion of red meat weekly.
- If you are vegetarian ensure your iron sources are high ie: pulses, spinach, molasses.
- Take regular exercise.

- Your chances of conceiving are higher if your body weight is in proportion to your height. If you are overweight or underweight, it may be advisable to consult a dietician before trying to conceive.
- If you have been taking the contraceptive pill, it is good to allow a few cycles to pass to work out your fertile period.

Commence taking FOLIC ACID 400 mcg daily. This has shown to reduce the incidence of spina bifida. Continue taking folic acid until the end of week 12 in pregnancy.

Think about taking out private health insurance, they prefer 10 months paid on the policy pre-pregnancy.

Have some blood screening tests carried out to check for Rubella immunity in the woman and also tesing for H.I.V. and HEP, B, for couples.
